The Quarter Life Chronicles

Last night was the New Kids on the Block show.  This past summer, when the show was announced my friend and I decided to buy the tickets for "shits and giggles".  We were highly amused that the former teenage hearthrobs had come out of retirement 15 years after they called it quits 15 years ago.

After the miserable experience I had at the Hanson show, I was not really looking forward to the concert.  The only reason I was looking forward to the show was that it was at Madison Square Gardens and it was a reason to travel into NYC.

We headed into the city early in the afternoon and headed for lunch and play at Dave and Busters.  I'm still recovering from the bill, but we had fun.  We then proceeded to wander around Times Square and kill time before the show.

We got to the venue a bit before 8 and spent the next half hour or so finding our seats.  We finally were seated (way at the tippity top of the venue) and endured the tail end of a singer named Lady Gaga who resembled a mixture of Baby Spice and Hannah MontanaNatasha Bedingfield took the stage next and while she was better than Lady Gaga, she still was not very impressive.

Finally, at long last NKOTB took the stage...and they put on an awesome show.  It was a mixture of songs from their latest album, their "classic" hits and even their solo hits.  They all had their turn to shine on stage and the break must have done them all good as they were in top form.  They still can hit all the notes, they still can dance.  And the crowd?  Still full of screaming girls...which I found very contagious and fun!

I never was a NKOTB fan...not TOO surprising as I was about 7 at the height of their career.  I remember some of their songs.  I remember the merchandise, the cartoon show that I would occasionally watch (anyone else remember it?  Hilarious!).  I just didn't buy into it as even as a 7 year old I was my own person...but last night, I had a change of heart.  Granted, I probably won't be rushing to the store to buy their albums...I will not be buying their teeshirts, buttons, posters, lunchboxes...etc.  But I will readily admit that beneath all of that...is a pretty decent group.

LOL!

Btw, I have left WordPress behind and am all grown up now -- well, mostly since I am still under construction.

I don't remember the cartoon, but I was gaga over them when I was about 14. LOL

Quilly, I'm shocked! Are you really leaving Wordpress?

Tammy, maybe the cartoon didn't show in Canada.

I never saw the cartoon.. as cute as they were at the time of their rising fame, I too never was a fan.. But since MPR went to see mostly Donnie Wahlberg at the concert in Toront recently. I listened to one of their new songs, I was impressed.. They have grown up and had a chance to do stuff on their own.. which just shows they have matured.. Glad you had a great time ...

There was a cartoon show? I remember being the only one in my entire brownie troop who wasn't madly in love with them...everyone else had the sleeping bags and buttons and lunchboxes.

Why, if you were an artist, would you name yourself "Lady Gaga"? Why?

I was too old for this group when they hit the scene way back in the day and at the time I had a 7-year old son who wasn't interested in them either. These days, having two teenage daughters, I get into a lot more new music and enjoy most of it. Perhaps I need to give these guys a listen? After all, they sucked you in!

Ack!!!! I was one of those super-obsessed pre-teens when they were @ their height...and you totally made me wish I had someone I could drag to the concert when they come! Hmm...my mom took me when I was 14, maybe she will again...

I love "Dave & Busters". I've only been there once so far, but that first experience was so much fun!

Had a crush on Jon Knight back when The New Kids on the Block were a teen band.

There is no shame in liking New Kids ;) I'm glad you had fun!

I saw Jordan a couple of years ago and he was great.

LOL. When I heard NKOTB was back on the scene, I rolled my eyes. I figured all the members must seriously be hurting for money. But apparently they're being taken seriously. Hmm... Donnie was my fave.
