The Quarter Life Chronicles

I have fallen out of the loop when it comes to current events.

Just a few short months ago I was slightly obsessed between watching CNN and listening to National Public Radio (NPR)-but since I've moved and especially since I started to work, I've fallen out of touch with the news.  It doesn't help much that this is a Fox News household-which I dislike intensely.  So, with the combination of everything-I feel quite ignorant on what's going on in the world.

And I feel really badly about this.  With the upcoming election, if feels crucial to have an understanding of these things in order to make an educated selection in the voting booth.  As a citizen of this country I feel as though I should know what's going on with the rest of my fellow citizens.

So I think that it's time to pay more attention to the news, actually take the time to seek out news stories and not depend on other people to give me updates.

It's so easy to fall out of the loop, isn't it? I lost touch with the radio when I moved and even now I listen to it only once or twice a week.

I usually keep up with the news cos I'm a bit of a geek for the news. But when I'm away dog-sitting I do tend to lose track quite easily (because Sky is the devil and it lures me away from news items ;D).

Oh I wish the news media would give you the entire truth.
It seems they only give you not the complete picture of current events.
Look out our economic crises now. I'm not sure real what to believe.

I did an post sort of on this subject or part of one. (Heads or Tail) about listing to the news from different source.

Coffee is on.

Something about the news leaves me overwhelmed. I think I should just stick to the random article here & there instead of trying to follow an entire broadcast. Sometimes ignorance is bliss. :)

It seems like there is never enough time these days to even sit and watch the news is there. I can't remember the last time I watched the whole news. It's silly that it's on at supper time when people are cooking and eating supper and then it's on again so late in the night that I have to go to bed.

Ys, I don't really listen to the radio either-mainly because I don't have a working car radio.

Peppylady, one of my professors in college told us that the best way to get non slanted news was to read/watch an international news outlet such as the BBC. Or, I suppose listening to an independent outlet like NPR is a good alternative.

Autumn, I sometimes get overwhelmed as well...especially when I go through a period of NOT paying attention and then sitting down to watch the news.

Tammy, I guess that's one nice thing about the internet or even newspapers-the work on YOUR time. It just takes longer.

I don't listen to the radio nor watch the TV much and I get all the news I need on the Web or while reading newspapers. I would have thought that in your free speech country, it would not be that hard to keep oneself up to date.

Ignorance is bliss as long as other people don't take advantage of it. By the way, I don't think time is a valuable excuse to justify a lack of knowledge. If you really want something, you shouldn't be stopped by any obstacle.

Gany, I know enough about what's going on that I don't think I'd get taken advantage of...I'm not totally in the dark. It is a bit nice to be limited though...sometimes knowing too much can get you down.

Actually, I wasn't talking about *you* in particular, but in general. Besides, I would rather know too much than not enough no matter how hard it is to cope with.

Well, if too much causes stress-I'd rather be ignorant.

I never listen to the radio myself, but find pretty much all I need to know about the election by regularly going to Andrew Sullivan's website (he's a gay Conservative who supports Obama).
